International Volunteer Day

December 5, 2017 ~ The United Nations issued a charter to commemorate the celebration of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) which is held every year on Dec 5 since its inception in 1985. Many volunteers and organizations from around the world come together to solemnize their efforts, and to promote their work among their communities that include personal engagements from the nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.

The guiding theme for the Year 2017 International Volunteer Day (IVD) is “Volunteers Act First. Here. Everywhere.” This message is the heart of the Mary K. Yap Foundation’s volunteer program where our organization dedicate our valuable time for the needy children to benefit the Myanmar Orphan community.

During this year’s IVD, the Mary K. Yap Foundation spent the evening with young children from the Agape Children’s Home in South Dagon Township, Yangon, where 10 children, mostly orphans, from Magway and Chin State reside in a shelter founded by Rev. Samuel Bawi Ling who have been operating since 2010.
